Babs...Both my parents spoke their native language fluently even though both were born in the US. I only know Italian slang from working around concrete masons. Did you learn your other languages in school or living in other countries?

Good Morning. How are you today, Tommy? Terrible weather here. My circuit class got cancelled last night because the sports hall is flooded, and my son can't get to his uni in Liverpool because all trains to Liverpool have been cancelled, as the line is flooded! Apparently we have had over a month's worth of rain in 2 days!

I learned Latin first at school, and that was a good basis for learning about languages and how they work. Then I learned French, Spanish and German at school. I taught myself Italian and Portuguese from cds, and found Italian very easy to pick up, with my knowledge of French and Spanish. Portuguese I find more difficult. It's easy to read, but the pronunciation is so different from Spanish.

I speak French and Spanish fluently. went to school for a while in Paris, and stayed with a French family. Have never lived in Spain, but my daughter lived in Seville for a year, and I visited frequently. I have used my languages in my working life in the past, and speak them whenever I have the opportunity, especially on holiday. Shame I can't go abroad more often, lol

Just seen you are half Russian and half Itralian. Can you speak either of those languages? I don't speak any Russian at all, but my Italian isn't bad. I speak French and Spanish fluently,and a little German and Potuguese.
